Police arrest phone thief caught on Lagos restaurant CCTV

The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested Ifeanyi Okonkwo, who was caught on Closed-Circuit Television stealing a phone at an eatery in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The RRS revealed this in a statement and accompanying video shared on X.com on Monday.

The statement read in part: “The suspect, Ifeanyi Okonkwo, on 7 November 2024, visited the restaurant to purchase food but ended up stealing a Samsung A15 mobile phone belonging to another customer.

“Unbeknown to him, he was captured on CCTV while stealthily taking the phone from the counter.”

According to the RRS, Okonkwo returned to the same restaurant on 5 December, unaware that he was being watched. He was spotted and promptly apprehended by RRS operatives near the scene.

The statement added that the stolen phone has been recovered from the buyer and the suspect has been charged to court.
