Rivers PDP Condemns Aaron’s Actions, Cites Court Ruling on Congresses
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong statement calling on Chukwuemeka Aaron and his group to vacate the party’s state secretariat located along the Port Harcourt/Aba Road. The party emphasized that Aaron’s actions are in violation of a court ruling that nullified the congresses conducted by his faction, leading to his dismissal as the PDP chairman in the state.
The statement, signed by the Acting State Chairman of the PDP, Nname Robinson Ewor, reminded Aaron of the legal judgment that declared his congresses and leadership actions illegal. This follows a press briefing held by Aaron and members loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the disputed party secretariat.
Ewor reiterated that Aaron is an “imposter” and stated, “We wish to remind Chukwuemeka Aaron and his co-travellers of a subsisting High Court judgment nullifying the purported State, LGAs, and ward congresses conducted by his group in Rivers State using the name of the PDP.”
Despite the illegal nature of these actions, the PDP maintained that it had refrained from interfering, but now insists on full compliance with the court’s verdict.
Call for Law Enforcement Neutrality Amid PDP Leadership Dispute
Ewor also appealed to law enforcement agencies, particularly the Rivers State Police Command, to remain neutral in the ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP. The party warned against any support for Aaron’s faction, stressing that law enforcement agencies should not be complicit in undermining the legal processes surrounding the matter.
“We have noted with concern that even when the Court’s ruling is of public knowledge, the State Police hierarchy still provided cover to such illegitimate so-called PDP executive to perpetrate their illegal act,” Ewor remarked.
The PDP called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Ogbetokun, and other security officials to ensure officers act within the law and refrain from aiding those violating legal processes.
Appeal for Calm Among PDP Supporters
Finally, the PDP urged its members and supporters to remain calm despite the disruptive actions of certain individuals seeking to destabilize the party and cause unrest. They urged the public to remain law-abiding and not be provoked by the actions of what they referred to as “desperate political merchants.”
“We also appeal to our esteemed members and supporters to remain calm and refuse to be provoked by the antics of desperate political merchants who are trying hard to unleash mayhem on innocent law-abiding citizens of Rivers State,” the statement concluded.
