Enforcement of Proper Vehicle Registration and Sundry Issues by the Edo State Police Command. Submit the Confiscation and Auctioning of Cars and vehicles to the Court System; Security Situation Room Tells the Edo State Police Command.

The Security Situation Room has asked the Edo State Police Command to submit to the Court System in any instance of Confiscation and Auctioning of Cars and Vehicles in its earmarked enforcement of proper vehicle registration and sundry issues , saying that is in keeping with Constitution Provisions .

The Online Security Tracking Platform made this pronouncement in a Statement issued by its Convener -Douglas Ogbankwa Esq in the evening of Tuesday 11th July ,2023, in Benin City, Edo State .

The Statement states inter alia thus :

“The Security Situation Room has seen a Statement made by the Edo State Police Command, on a plan to enforce proper registration and numbering of vehicles/ sundry issues , which is commendable , as it will stem insecurity and criminality.

However in keeping with the Rule of Law /Decided Judicial Precedents, stemming the extortion of citizens and arbitrary use of Police Powers , it is imperative that the Edo State Police Command follow due process ,before any impoundment and / or auctioning of any car vehicle.

The Police no doubt is a very powerful organisation, but power is nothing without control .This is a democratic setting and any enforcement of any Law by the Police, must also be guided by Laws.The Police should therefore follow the principle of separation of powers, that is a sure safeguard to the liberties of citizens , just as it authenticates any process , as conforming to democratic norms. ”
