Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has officially signed the 2025 budget of N955 billion into law, calling it a crucial step towards “consolidation and expansion.” The appropriation bill, which was passed expeditiously by the state House of Assembly on December 24, allocates N300 billion for recurrent expenditure and N655 billion for capital projects.
While Governor Eno commended the swift and cooperative efforts of both the executive and legislature, some observers question whether this rapid passage signals genuine progress or a political maneuver aimed at strengthening the governor’s position. With the budget described as a tool for the “delivery of democracy dividends” to the people of Akwa Ibom, critics are eager to see if the allocated funds will result in tangible improvements or if the ambitious figures will remain as promises unfulfilled.
